Pinnerwood Stud is located some 15 miles northwest of central London within the M25 and close to the M40 and M1.

The farm is set in 120 acres of land devoted to grazing and hay making. Pinnerwood is the home of El Helaly.

A brief history

Pinnerwood Arabian Stud was founded in 1964 with the purchase of Shergolds Golden Dusk, a 7/8 part bred palomino by Miksham, a year later another colt, this time the pure bred Blue Ludo, was also bought. Blue was by Ludo out of Bint Jasimet.

For several years we bred and showed part breds and palominos. The "boys" became very popular, so every year their books were filled with visiting mares.

Eventually TB and anglo mares were added to our own small brood mare band, notably Fair Legend from the Linney's fabulous anglo family. The TB show stallion Queen's Colours was leased for two seasons, and gradually we concentrated more on breeding anglos. The part breds we phased out and we were able to buy our first pure bred mare, Gayrani, in foal to Roxan for Gay Roxana the dam of Kactus, Granada and Gayana.
Kactus, by Mikeno, was put down in 2001 at the age of 26. He had a good show record as a colt, then we raced him. He was grade I, but had to be retired after injuring a tendon in a tractor rut at Larkhill. As a breeding stallion he sired a number of good race winners and also some top endurance horses.

Gayana, by Procyon, is retired, but still here, with various daughters and granddaughters.
Blue Ludo sired many champion anglos, and his stock were in much demand for export. We managed to keep his best anglo son Blue Madrigal, out of Fair Legend, and one lovely pure bred daughter, Blue Sabha out of Shahiya. Blue Madrigal excelled at everything asked of him. Junior National Champion at 2 years, winning racehorse at 4 years, winner x country at 7 years and dressage winner later. His offspring are equally versatile, Pinnerwood Black Jack being one of his sons. Sadly he died in February 2002 aged 25. Blue Sabha produced lovely foals by Procyon and Kactus, but only two fillies. Two of her sons are still kept with us as liveries.

Over the years very few horses have been brought into the herd and of course old lines have been lost, the last of our anglos was Blue Madrigal, as we have been concentrating on the pure breds.

In over 20 years only one mare has been purchased, she is Gehan El Sahra a straight Egyptian by Hamasa Khassan out of L.F. Desert Gem bought from the Maxwells. Gehan was bought as a wife for El Helaly, the lovely straight Egyptian stallion, together with Makhbelieve (Makhsous/Bint-Naadya) another straight Egyptian mare.

El Helaly, born in Egypt, by Ikhnatoon out of Enshad has a great show record in Europe and the Middle East. For the past few years he has proved a super out cross for our own mares as well as Gehan and Makhbelieve.
Several years ago we stopped taking outside mares and are cutting back on our own numbers. Older horses are never sold, but we can offer a choice of several lovely youngsters. All colts are for sale since we will not keep a stallion once El Helaly goes.

Thank you for visiting.  You are welcome to come and see the Stud, but please phone first.
